Wildflowers of North Carolina: A Community Photo Exhibit

North Carolina is home to over 3,000 species of wildflowers. As part of the 2020: Year of the Wildflower theme at the North Carolina Botanical Garden, they asked for submissions of photos of native wildflowers in our state. The result is this exhibit of nearly 400 photos by 105 photographers of all ages, from all across the state and country. Six of our members, Becky Armstrong, David Heavner, Penny Longhurst, Marianne Mooney, Randy Richardson, & Jean Woods had pictures accepted for the exhibit. Congratulations to all! You may access the exhibit here.

Non-Native Flora of Henderson County Walkways

With loads of time on his hands, Ken and his co-leader, Annie, have been documenting the flora of Henderson County walkways. Their walkies have taken them to the Oklawaha Greenway, Fletcher Park, Park Ridge Nature Trail, & the Park at Flat Rock. Previous posts showed the native plants they saw in early-summer, & late-summer, part 1 & part 2. Here are the non-native plants they found.  Photography by Ken Borgfeldt. Glassy Mountain Scout – October 20, 2020

Glassy Mountain is a monadnock that is the remnant of a pluton. For information on its origins check last year’s post here.  I don’t remember having a field trip here at this time of year before. Things certainly looked different!  Read more info on the plants at Glassy in Glassy Mountain Heritage Preserve by Patrick D. McMillan
