The Wolves & Wildlife of Yellowstone – November 10, 2023

Join Joe & Mary for their January 2023 tour of the Tetons and Yellowstone and see the wildlife (and snow!). “The temperature at Grand Teton was Minus 14 ! We will show all the winter scenes at Old Faithful and the thermal features, but most of the tour was spotting wolves and wolf packs. We saw 3 different packs and maybe ¼ of the wolves in the park. Of course, also exciting was the 5,000+ elk at the National Elk Preserve in their winter feeding grounds and innumerable Bison!” Photography by Joe Standaert.

We didn’t get to Glassy on the field trip this year, but fortunately Joe took pictures when he scouted. Photography by Joe Standaert. Click on any picture to zoom. Plants that are non-native to North America are indicated by an asterisk (*) placed after the species name.

Ashmore Heritage Preserve – October 20, 2023

We wanted to check out whether anything was growing on the dam after it was bush-hogged in the late spring. Still loads of wildflowers, but the Virginia Willow (Itea virginica), Sparkleberry (Vaccinium arboreum), & Maleberry (Lyonia ligustrina) that we saw blooming in May are long gone. We also saw a huge, creepy, invasive Joro spider! Photography by Penny Longhurst & Joe Standaert (Click on any picture to zoom).
