Blue Wall Preserve – October 16, 2026

Another fall field trip to the Blue Wall – and more of those huge Joro spiders! The Palmetto Trail passes through the 575 acre Blue Wall Preserve, managed by the Nature Conservancy. The Preserve contains the Twin Ponds and Lanny’s Cascade, a small waterfall. Robert Galloway wrote that “Lanny Webster lived in Greenville SC. She was very active throughout her life for the betterment of her community, and generously gave of her time and financial resources to many public benefit organizations including nature societies, garden clubs and numerous charitable causes. Her modest profile belied her significance as an important contributor to the world around her.”

Photography by Hugh & Janice Irwin, Sarah King, Carol McCall,  & Meg McFadden. Botanical plant names seem to change almost every day, but for now we mostly use those approved by ITIS, the Integrated Taxonomic Information System. Plants that are non-native to North America are indicated by an asterisk (*) placed after the species name. Click on any picture to zoom and view the slide show.
