Ashmore Heritage Preserve – September 25, 2026

A great turnout for a beautiful fall hike to Lake Wattacoo.

Photography by Jennie Bradbury, Charlie Brice, Cindy Carpenter, Richard Holzman, Eric King, Penny Longhurst, & Jim Poling. Botanical plant names seem to change almost every day, but for now we use those approved by ITIS, the Integrated Taxonomic Information System. Plants that are non-native to North America are indicated by an asterisk (*) placed after the species name. Click on any picture to zoom and view the slide show.

Great mix of finds, especially those pitcher plants. Truer words were never spoken about plant names changing constantly… I feel like every time I open a field guide, half the species have been moved to a new family just to mess with us.
