The Blue Ridge Parkway Ridgeline Trail (better known to many of us as the Painted Trillium trail, although some suggested it should be renamed the Pinkshell Trail, as you can tell from the pictures). Parkway Deep South – May 5, 2023

A new field trip and it’s a keeper! Our timing was perfect. Spring ephemerals were busting out all over and we identified some new plants. As Sunflower used to say, “It was glorious!”. Stops were John Rock Overlook, Wolf Mountain Overlook, Rough Butt Bald Overlook, Haywood Gap, and Bear Pen Gap Overlook. Fortunately Lucy had written articles about two of the plants we saw. So, if you’d like to know more about Cardamine clematitis, check out page 9 in the Spring 2020 issue of Shortia and for Anemone lancifolia, look at page 10 in the Spring 2022 issue

We visited the Park at Flat Rock in September and saw wonderful fall plants, so we decided to see what was there in the spring. Seems like we were about a month too early!  Photography by Ken Borgfeldt, Cindy Carpenter, Alice Greko, & Penny Longhurst.  Click on any picture to zoom.
