Ashmore Heritage Preserve – October 20, 2023

We wanted to check out whether anything was growing on the dam after it was bush-hogged in the late spring. Still loads of wildflowers, but the Virginia Willow (Itea virginica), Sparkleberry (Vaccinium arboreum), & Maleberry (Lyonia ligustrina) that we saw blooming in May are long gone. We also saw a huge, creepy, invasive Joro spider! Photography by Penny Longhurst & Joe Standaert (Click on any picture to zoom).

Mossing at Jones Farm – October 6, 2023

Perfect day to be looking at moss! Fog & a tad of rain overnight and dry during the walk. Just the way moss likes it. Thanks Betty for arranging that!

Some information about the bryophytes seen today, as well as reference sources can be found on our website here. Photography by Ken Borgfeldt, Penny Longhurst, & Randy Richardson. (Click on any picture to zoom & enter the slide show).
