Ashmore Heritage Preserve – May 17, 2024
A prescribed burn was done over a large area stretching from Persimmon Ridge Road down to Lake Wattacoo over the winter. Between that and the mowing on the dam we were curious to see how the plants were doing. We needn’t have worried! Loads of our favorite plants were still there and thriving. Blue Ridge Parkway Ridgeline Trail – May 13, 2024
The Blue Ridge Parkway Ridgeline Trail (aka the Painted Trillium trail) lived up to its reputation. Painted Trillium were everywhere! It looks like this will be a great summer for Blueberries too. Big Ridge Loop – May 10, 2024
Last year it was a “little” rainy when we scheduled this trip and a lot of people skipped it! No problem this year. We started on the Parkway in order to avoid the heat of the day, returning through the woods. Photography by Ken Borgfeldt, Cindy Carpenter, Penny Longhurst, Jim Poling, & Randy Richardson. Parkway Deep South – May 6, 2024
Well, the weather was not on our side but we were undaunted! We started at Bear Pen Gap Overlook in drizzle & fog and wandered North on the Parkway. By the time we reached Wolf Mountain Overlook we and the plants were soaking wet! Naturally, by the time we were ready to give up and abandon lunch, the rain stopped.
