Corneille Bryan Native Garden – April 21, 2025

The Corneille Bryan Native Garden was established in 1989 to call attention to the unique plant life in the Southern Appalachians and to promote its preservation. By 2012 there were approximately 500 species of plants, excluding grasses and weeds. You can read an “Our State” magazine article about the gardens here. Photography by Penny Longhurst & Joe Standaert.

Botanical plant names seem to change almost every day, but for now we use those approved by ITIS, the Integrated Taxonomic Information System. Plants that are non-native to North America are indicated by an asterisk (*) placed after the species name. Click on any picture to zoom & enter the slide show.
